Harbajan Singh - shock
Harbajan Singh is under extreme shock and sorrow when he was informed about his nephew Upkar Singh’s death in Melbourne Australia. As subsequent events in that country have drawn the family to suspect that 26 year old Upkar’s death might not be a case of suicide but assault and murder. Actually, it was first thought he had committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. It was when body came to India everybody started doubting the suicide theory. As it was clear case if anybody throws himself before train he will be cut into pieces. But the body only had a small head injury. The family is waiting for the final enquiry report from the authorities. As far as going through the happenings in Australia in all probability he must be a victim of violence, the young Indians are facing. Harbajan wanted to write a letter to the Prime Minister to convey his views.
Bhajji himself was on the otherside of a racist debate during the spat with Andrews Symonds. At times when he used to field on the boundry, he had to put up with lots of words and gestures. But that happened during sporting passions All will come to end after the match is over. He doesn’t want to compare what is happening in Australia today with Cricket related aggression. He personally feels that he has never faced discrimination in any country. According to him Australia is the best place to tour. It is just the persons engaging in such crimes need to be punished.
