TEN KATESTRAAT 53/55/57 BUURTBRIEF 

Vandaag hebben we 3 panden in de Ten Katestraat herkraakt, hiep hoi! 

Een half jaar geleden werden de panden nog bewoond door krakers en anti-krakers. De anti-krakers werden de deur gewezen en de krakers zijn in overleg weggegaan. Woningbouwvereniging Rochdale zou de panden namelijk renoveren. Nadat iedereen zijn huis kwijt was en Rochdale de boel maar gauw potdicht maakte met het o-zo gezellig ogende citex bleek dat ze eigenlijk helemaal geen geld hebben om er aan de slag te gaan. 

Van de 3 naastgelegen panden panden, nummer 59/61/63, is de renovatie onlangs wel voltooid. Deze staan nu te koop voor riante bedragen. Leuk hoor, nog meer onbetaalbare woonruimte in Amsterdam.. Daar hadden we nog niet genoeg van zeker. Eenzelfde lot stond nummer 53/55/57 te wachten. Nou ja, als Rochdale er niet zo'n potje van gemaakt had dan.. 

Voor nu gaan wij er dus maar wonen. Nu eerst de boel wat huiselijker maken en na de nodige klusjes kunnen we er hopelijk nog een tijdje wonen.

Beschrijving

Midden jaren negentig lijkt het hoogtepunt van de kraakbeweging voorbij. Ruim vijftien jaar na de Vondelvrijstaat en de kroningsrellen ('Geen woning, geen kroning') vindt filmmaker Joost Seelen die tijdens zijn studietijd in Nijmegen geïnteresseerd is geraakt in de theorie en praktijk van sociale bewegingen, dat het tijd is om zich aan een terugblik te wagen. Het is een relaas dat zich niet laat vangen in het beeld van de onschuldige Vondelvrijstaat waaraan door tankcolonnes een einde wordt gemaakt. De afzonderlijke verhalen voegt Seelen samen tot een kroniek van intriges en machtsstrijd in de periode tussen 1975 en 1988, die niet onderdoet voor de koningsdrama's van Shakespeare.

Zo worden Theo en zijn adjudant Jack de hoofdpersonen van DE STAD WAS VAN ONS. Zij waren de vertegenwoordigers van de Politieke Vleugel van de Kraakbeweging (PVK) die de morele standvastigheid van de beweging bewaakten, zo nodig met harde hand. Tegenover deze 'neostalinisten' zet Seelen krakers die niet mee willen in de spiraal van geweld. Die de ijskast op het dak niet met alle geweld op een een beneden staande ME'er willen gooien. Onthullend zijn de kaders die de filmmaker kiest om de geïnterviewden in beeld te brengen: ruim genoeg om de kijker een goede indruk te geven van hun huidige maatschappelijke situatie. De luxe woonomgeving van een aantal van hen wekt bijna jaloezie op.

Samen met oud-kraker Eric Duivenvoorden die het officieuze archief van de kraakbeweging onder zijn hoede heeft, schrijft Joos Seelen een scenario waarin de ontwikkelingen in de Amsterdamse kraakscene centraal staan. Een andere oud-kraker, beeldresearcher Gerard Nijssen, duikt uniek archiefmateriaal op.

Joost Seelen raakt gefascineerd door de verhalen van de betrokkenen. In zijn optiek vormt de kraakbeweging een scharnier tussen de collectieve acties van de jaren zestig (je sterk maken voor groepen uit de samenleving, zoals 'de arbeidersklasse') en het individualisme van de jaren tachtig (voor jezelf opkomen). Seelen ontdekt dat er zich het nodige binnen de beweging heeft afgespeeld, dat alleen onder intimi bekend is.

In 1996 gaat De stad was van ons tijdens het IDFA in première. Seelens conclusie dat de kraakbeweging aan onderlinge verdeeldheid ten onder is gegaan, wordt meteen bestreden door een aantal ex-krakers die in een verklaring laten weten dat de filmmaker zich schuldig maakt aan geschiedvervalsing. Seelen wijst erop dat hij geenszins pretendeert 'de geschiedenis' van de kraakbeweging te presenteren.

Gezien de ophef over het actieverleden van enkele politici in 2008, heeft De stad was van ons als analyse van een sociale beweging die zich volgens de normen van toen op het randje van het betamelijke bewoog, maar die nu als onaanvaardbaar wordt gezien, nog niets aan belang verloren.

INSPIRING CINEMA

An idea is to vote as a group on a weekly basis the movie that we think is the most inspiring. On the pages we can count the votes and show all of your proposals.
The movie that has the greatest number of votes will be the pick of the week. The proposal is to screen the winner in as many places as is possible.

  The voting system will be as follows - 1) Possible to choose five movies, 2) Giving each individual movie a point  between 1 and 5. (Example, your most favourite movie will get 5 points etc).

2008 04 11 Perspraatje Squatting Actions days

The action days were very succeful, the goals we set were achieved, so we could give up the political occupation of the Drawing school.

The weekend provided a lot of fun with lots of workshops, concerts and a Reclaim the Streets. A lot of people visited the action day, there were a lot of positive reactions from visitors and neighbours.

A more elaborated report will follow tomorrow, everybody is very tired now.

We greet in solidarity all other groups that made these international action day into a succes.

"It's not only about squatting" exposition. video

"It's not only about squatting" that's exposition of political posters which are (or use to be) hanging at squatting places. It shows that many of squatters are active also at other fields like: social struggle for freedom, equality, tolerance, human and animal rights, clean environment, climate justice etc. Living at the front line of fight for affordable houses for everyone, in that way ( or another ) it's making the whole social struggle stronger. This exposition was in the (squatted for the days of actions) social center Kraak Meer ( fire station ). Awakening it's a program on radio patapoe.It's talkactive. It means we talk for more than three hours, mainly about politics,squatting,activism,ecology,tolerance,human and animal rights,punk,spirituality,freedom,love,cultural life in Amsterdam.First we start with the agenda for the squatting scene in Amsterdam( not only),then we have some main subject,sometimes guests.The last ha we do as polish part in this language.The music what we are playing that mainly punk,but this is just as background(package) and in the breaks when we are preparing our self,equipment,material,etc.Patapoe is a pirate, underground,squatters radio.
