Coming Wednesday 16 February we are organising a picketline against the prominent presence at an elections debate of former squatterhater cop and now parliamentary for the extreme right party of geert wilders, Hero Brinkman. The planned blockade is dropped because we expect to have not enough people present to counter police repression and arrests and we don't want to bring people in such a situation.

Het tweede gedeelte van de hierboven geschreven zin is natuurlijk een welbekende uitspraak van PVV-leider Wilders. Het eerste gedeelte is de essentie van een betoog dat PVV 2e kamerlid en lijstrekker voor de provinciale staten verkiezingen in Noord-Holland Hero Brinkman onlangs hield in het Parool over zijn voornemen om elke vrouw met hoofddoek, niet alleen medewerkers maar ook bezoekers, de toegang tot het Haarlemse provinciehuis te ontzeggen. Aangezien hij duidelijk alleen sprak over moslima's en schijnbaar geen probleem heeft als de nonnen van de plaatselijke klooster orde provinciale zaken komen bespreken is dit weer het zoveelste bewijs van de onverholen discriminatie die de kern vormt van het PVV program, alleen nog maar opvallend door dat ze verkondigd werd door Hero Brinkman, in de media recent nog veelvuldig opgehemeld als "redelijk en gematigd dissident". Maar de uitspraken van Brinkman tonen aan dat ook hij het rabiaat rechtse, discriminerende PVV discours dat we zo goed kennen van Wilders en zijn boevenbende omarmd.
Antifa!-Amsterdam roept op om woensdag 16 februari aanstaande, onder de dus van de PVV geleende leus "Geen toegang voor dit symbool van onderdrukking, stop deze fascistoïde verwerpelijke ideologie!", tot een protest picketline en een geweldloze blokkade van de komst van Hero Brinkman bij een verkiezingsdebat in Amsterdam Zuid. Dit zodat Brinkman hopelijk een klein beetje kan voelen wat het is om consequent buitengesloten te worden uit het politieke en maatschappelijke leven, hoe het is om verteld te worden dat je niet welkom bent.
Want zolang de PVV er openlijk voor pleit dat burgers de vrije toegang tot politiek en maatschappij ontzegt wordt, zien wij niet waarom ook zij op hun beurt niet de toegang tot het politieke en maatschappelijk debat ontzegt mag worden. Zolang de PVV mensen op puur discriminerende gronden buitensluit, vinden wij dat de PVV via een cordon sanitaire ook buitengesloten zou moeten worden. En zolang de PVV openlijk lak heeft aan het anti-discriminatie beginsel vragen wij ons af waarom de PVV zich maar steeds op het recht van vrijheid van meningsuiting zou mogen beroepen.

On 12 March world-famous linguist and political activist Noam Chomsky will visit the Netherlands for the first time in years. In his 83rd year Chomsky still travels around the world to give his vision on language and politics. In the Netherlands he will give one political talk, and on linguistic talk. Political talk The political talk in on March 13. In the Westerkerk in Amsterdam he will, as we are used to of him, speak about the current developments in the world. He will speak about his concerns about the tendencies he sees, in the world, in the United States, but also in Europe and the Netherlands. The title of his talk is “Contours of Global Order: Domination, Instability, and Xenophobia in a Changing World”. The talk will be in English and is hosted by the International Institute for Social History, the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics and Moving Matters of the University of Amsterdam.
Who is Noam Chomsky? Chomsky has worked at M.I.T. since 1955, and became a Professor in Linguistics in 1961. His linguistic work caused a revolution in the field, and influenced psychology, philosophy, computer sciences and much more. Since the middle of the 60’s Chomsky took up a second carrier, as political activist for social justice and peace. By now he has published over a 100 books. Between 1980 and 1992 he was the most cited living person and in 2005 he was chosen the most important intellectual in the world.

Op 12 maart komt de wereldberoemde taalkundige en politiek activist Noam Chomsky voor het eerst in jaren naar Nederland. Wie is Noam Chomsky?

Studenten voor Scholieren trekt de komende weken langs middelbare scholen in Amsterdam. De studenten protesteren tegen de plannen van de overheid om flink te bezuinigen op het hoger onderwijs. Gewapend met een stapel pamfletten en een gouden frame met als opschrift 'Laag opgelijt met dank aan de overheid', waarin leerlingen kunnen poseren voor een foto, willen studenten de middelbare scholieren in laten zien dat juist zij straks de dupe worden van de op handen zijnde bezuinigingen.
New year, new opportunities. The christmas lights are being taken down but the fireworks just keep on going. Our New Year's resolution shall be the same as it is every year: we will keep squatting!
2011 is a year like every other, with many people still suffering from the housing shortage. Squatting ban or not, squatting remains a necessity since housing shortage remains an issue. And we will keep on resisting against the fact that having a roof above your head depends on money or a years-long waiting list. We refuse to lay our destiny in the hands of speculators and city developers and building corporations.
In order to keep up the illusion of habitation, the city places anti-squatters deprived of any rights into empty buildings. And so the owners can keep on speculating happily and the rights of renters are getting eroded more and more. This is no solution! We will keep on actively fighting against emptiness and the housing shortage.
During the weekend of 7th-8th of January we want to start the new year with actions across the whole country. We will expropriate empty houses and give them back their original purpose: houses are to be lived in! Come rain or shine we will build and renovate, and where necessary we will barricade and defend, because we will not be driven out without a fight. We call for everyone to show during this weekend that we are still here, that our struggle goes on. And that we will not be stopped by a law that is not only unjust, but also not ours, not at all.
Especially during times of oppression we will continue. The fires of 1st of October might seem extinguished but they still smolder and might flare up any moment!
2011: houses are still empty, our ideals still fiery. This will be a great year!
17 december: Actie! Voor behoud van werkgroepen en docenten, voor beter onderwijs! 15.00 Binnegasthuisterrein
De Faculteit der Gedrag- en Maatschappijwetenschappen komt miljoenen tekort. Dit tekort zal verhaald worden op ons onderwijs, onder andere door tijdelijke contracten niet te verlengen waardoor werkgroepen ofwel groter worden of minder vaak zullen plaats vinden. Een andere veelbesproken optie is daarnaast het snijden in de onderzoekstijd en/of het aannemen van minder opgeleide tijdelijke krachten die dan ook minder betaald kunnen worden.
Dit slaat natuurlijk helemaal nergens op. Ten eerste heeft de FMG nog een reserve van 6 miljoen, waarmee het tekort makkelijk opgevangen zou kunnen worden. Hier mag echter niet aangekomen worden vanwege het prestigeproject van het College van Bestuur op roeterseiland, waarvoor zij tegen de 150 miljoen wil gaan lenen. Ten tweede is een groot deel van het tekort het resultaat van de invoering van een nieuw rekenmodel van de begroting, eveneens een besluit van het CvB. Ten derde verdienen de leden van het CvB allen ruim boven de balkenende-norm. Als er dus ergens op bezuinigd moet worden, kunnen wat ons betreft de klappen daar dus vallen en niet bij ons onderwijs.
Een actie op 30 november opgezet vanuit politicologie studenten bij het maagdenhuis zorgde er al voor dat de decaan van de FMG de toezegging deed dat in ieder geval vólgend semester ons onderwijs behouden zou blijven. Wij willen nu de eerste stappen zetten om ervoor te zorgen dat ook daarná de ratio student-werkgroep en student-docent op z'n minst hetzelfde blijft.
Om 15.00u, 17 december, wordt verzameld op het binnegasthuisterrein. Daarna zullen we gezamenlijk naar het maagdenhuis zullen trekken om deze eis aan te bieden. Wees creatief en laat je horen!

Op 26 november 2010 vind de eerste strafrechtzaak op grond van de "Wet kraken en leegstand" plaats. De arrestanten van de ontruiming van het KPN-gebouw op de Koningin Wilhelminalaan te Utrecht, moeten als eerste verdachten voor de rechter verschijnen op grond van het nieuwe wetsartikel 138a. Om deze dag niet ongemerkt voorbij te laten gaan roepen wij iedereen die sympathiseert met de aangeklaagden op om op 26 november om 12:00 uur te verzamelen op het Vrouwe Justitiaplein in Utrecht, voor een demonstratie. Voorafgaand aan de demonstratie zal er mogelijkheid zijn om vanaf 09:00 uur de rechtszaak te volgen op de publieke tribune of buiten op het plein.
Op 1 oktober 2010, is de nieuwe wet "Kraken en Leegstand" in werking getreden. Hiermee wordt het kraken van een leegstand gebouw verboden. Ondanks veel verzet van niet alleen krakers, maar onder andere ook door de Raad van State, de Vereniging Nederlandse Gemeenten (VNG), de culturele sector en zelfs de Raad van Kerken, heeft de politiek toch besloten om deze misdadige wet aan te nemen.
Omdat door het verbieden van kraken de leegstand en woningnood niet word opgelost, is er 1 november een pand aan de Koningin Wilhelminalaan te Utrecht bezet. Dit voormalig KPN-pand staat al lange tijd leeg en is niet meer in gebruik sinds 90 studenten gedwongen hun woning eind 2009 moesten verlaten. De studenten moesten op last van de brandweer vertrekken, omdat de eigenaar weigerde geld te investeren om het pand te laten voldoen aan de brandveiligheidseisen.
De dag na de bezetting is het pand in opdracht van Burgemeester Wolfsen, in overleg met de lokale driehoek, op hardhandige wijze ontruimd. Met veel machtsvertoon van de politie werd het pand onterecht en onaangekondigd ontruimd. Bij deze ontruiming werden 17 mensen gearresteerd, waaronder zelfs meerdere passanten die niks met de ontruiming te maken hadden. Op vrijdag 26 november om 9:00 uur zullen 8 van deze arrestanten voor de rechter moeten verschijnen. Zij worden als eerste personen in Nederland vervolgd voor het overtreden van artikel 138a Sr.
Deze dag kunnen wij natuurlijk niet ongemerkt voorbij laten gaan, en wij willen deze dag dan ook aangrijpen om onze woede en onvrede over de nieuwe wet te uiten.
Om de arrestanten een hart onder te riem steken en om ons ongenoegen te laten blijken, roepen wij iedereen op om op 26 november om 12:00 uur te verzamelen op het Vrouwe Justitiaplein in Utrecht, voor een demonstratie vóór kraken en in solidariteit met hen die voor de rechter moeten verschijnen.
Woningnood en leegstand worden niet opgelost met holle wetten, deze worden opgelost met directe actie. WET OF GEEN WET, KRAKEN GAAT DOOR!!

As students and public sector workers across Europe prepare for a winter of protests, they have been offered advice from the archetypal football rebel Eric Cantona.
Cantona was once a famous exponent of direct action against adversaries on and off the pitch. In 1995 he was given a nine-month ban after launching a karate kick at a Crystal Palace fan who shouted racist abuse at the former Manchester United star after he was sent off. But while sympathising with the predicament of the protesters in France, the now retired Cantona is urging a more sophisticated approach to dissent.
The 44-year-old former footballer recommended a run on the cash reserves of the world's banks during a newspaper interview that was also filmed. The interview has become a YouTube hit and has spawned a new political movement.
The regional newspaper Presse Océan in Nantes had asked Cantona about his work with the Abbé Pierre Foundation, which campaigns for housing for the destitute and for which he produced a book of photographs last year. But the discussion soon moved on to other issues, including the demonstrations in France and elsewhere against government cutbacks in the new era of austerity.
Cantona, wearing a bright red jumper, dismissed protesters who take to the streets with placards and banners as passé. Instead, he said, they should create a social and economic revolution by taking their money out of their bank.
He said: "I don't think we can be entirely happy seeing such misery around us. Unless you live in a pod. But then there is a chance... there is something to do. Nowadays what does it mean to be on the streets? To demonstrate? You swindle yourself. Anyway, that's not the way any more.
"We don't pick up weapons to kill people to start the revolution. The revolution is really easy to do these days. What's the system? The system is built on the power of the banks. So it must be destroyed through the banks.
"This means that the three million people with their placards on the streets, they go to the bank and they withdraw their money and the banks collapse. Three million, 10 million people, and the banks collapse and there is no real threat. A real revolution.
"We must go to the bank. In this case there would be a real revolution. It's not complicated; instead of going on the streets and driving kilometres by car you simply go to the bank in your country and withdraw your money, and if there are a lot of people withdrawing their money the system collapses. No weapons, no blood, or anything like that."
He concludes: "It's not complicated and in this case they will listen to us in a different way. Trade unions? Sometimes we should propose ideas to them."
Cantona's call appeared to touch a popular chord and generated an instant response. Nearly 40,000 people have clicked on the YouTube clip, and a French-based movement – StopBanque – has taken up the campaign for a massive coordinated withdrawal of money from banks on 7 December. It is claimed that more than 14,000 people are already committed to removing deposits. The movement is also gaining increasing attention in Britain.
The trio of French Facebook users now leading the campaign have appealed to people across Europe to provoke a bank crash. "It is we who control the banks, not vice versa," they write.
In a fuller statement on the website Bankrun2010.com, the organisers write: "Our call has been more successful than we dared think. Our action is a people's movement... we're not seeking to destroy anyone in particular, it's the corrupt, criminal and moribund system that we have decided to oppose using what means we can, with determination and within the law." The statement is signed by Géraldine Feuillien, 41, a Belgian filmmaker, and Yann Sarfati, 24, an actor and director from France.
Sarfati said he and his friends had simply wanted to pass on Cantona's video clip, but had found themselves caught up in a global "citizens' movement".
"We were surprised by the interest and the buzz it created on the internet. It has really spread; there are now Facebook events in Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and even Korea," Sarfati said.
"We're not anarchists, nor linked to any political party or trade union; we're not even an organisation. We just thought this was another way of protesting."
He added: "In between doing publicity campaigns for L'Oréal, Cantona has this revolutionary side. He earns a good living, but obviously he has a social conscience and I think he is sincere."
Valérie Ohannesian, of the French Banking Federation, said she thought that the appeal was "stupid in every sense" and a charter for thieves and money-launderers.
"My first reaction is to laugh. It is totally idiotic," she told the Observer. "One of the main roles of a bank is to keep money safe. This appeal will give great pleasure to thieves, I would have thought."
She also doubted the practicalities of the suggestion. "If Mr Cantona wants to take his money out of the bank, I imagine that he'll need quite a few suitcases," she said.

This can be done by withdrawing all your cash, yes it's really that simple. Why give your 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week hard earned spondoolies (cash) to those greedy bastards anyway. What, so that they can give themselves a nice extra bonus. I say take your cash and shove it under your mattress.
The action of putting your life savings under the mattress will not give You any extra percentage, maybe even less security, but come on what benefits did you get from having your hard earned cash being submitted to the bank every month anyway??? Banks are getting your future cash, these gits are getting your pension by making you work longer and die before you get the chance to enjoy your retirement. If You need to use banks there is an alternative. Use ethical banks like Triodos bank which invests in sustainable projects and not destructive projects. Come on people let us all work together and support ethical banks. Don't be part of destruction by supporting bad business. We have the power, it's so simple, it's not even about belief, fuck that. We do have the power we just have to take action and transfer!!

The Rozbrat Collective started as a regular squat, which has been in existence since 1994 in the town of Poznan (Poland). It started as a squat where people could live and organize punk shows, but has grown to be a very active and political social center. It is one of the most important anarchist spaces in Poland and the Rozbrat Collective initiated a lot of activities. Since the beginning of 2009 the squat is constantly threatened with eviction. In the meantime the Rozbrat Collective has won two battles to save the squat. Until now potential buyers are too afraid to buy the property where the Rozbrat squat is situated.
On October 17 the people from the Rozbrat Collective are coming to Amsterdam to talk about their long-term strategy concerning their collective, their initiatives, actions, protests, etc. and of course they will explain everything about their struggle to keep the Rozbrat squat!
