Most Christmas dinners are very formal affairs that require an appropriate table setting. This calls for elaborate, place settings, dining utensils and centrepieces to complement the elaborate meal prepared. The most important factor to remember is that the décor should tie in with the season and so using Christmas colours and themes is a must. Place mats in Christmas colours will add colour to the table especially if the plates are white. A neutral plate charger such as gold or silver is ideal for such a setting. The table napkins can then be in the same colour as the place mat and tied with a gold or silver ring to complete the décor.
Using Christmas Colours and Ornaments
The holidays are considered to be fruitful and full of life so adding some greenery to the centrepiece is quite fitting. A potted poinsettia is quite traditional as a centrepiece adding vibrancy with its colour. For variety, a basket full of different coloured apples will do exceptionally well as far as centrepieces go. The handle can then be tied in a beautiful bow in a complementing colour. The table can be left bare or draped in a checked cloth that complements the other colours. A white table cloth is ideal for a very formal dinner while other Christmas colours are equally elegant.
Candle sticks and candelabra are great for holiday table settings and they accomplish different functions. For a romantic and intimate Christmas dinner, they provide illumination and ambience from the coloured and scented candles while at the same time are striking centrepieces especially the gold and silver variety. For a family dinner, the candles provide additional illumination and the candelabra can be incorporated as centrepieces. For a more laid back table setting, Christmas ball in different colours placed in a bowl are great as a centrepiece.
